A Museum for Anything Hit, Strummed or Plucked

Here is another keen insight (from the New York Times) into Target’s current CEO – Robert J. Ulrich – whom is retiring later this year (and whom was part of last Thursday's post). In short: when you make a fortune and love the arts, you naturally want to give money away to support it. And usually, that means building a fancy new orchestra hall. Not so for Bob Ulrich, who is instead donating millions of dollars to establish the decidedly unglamorous Musical Instrument Museum: the country’s only free-standing museum devoted to instruments of world cultures.

The museum, which will be located just outside of Phoenix, AZ, will house about 5,000 items, nearly 1,000 of which have already been acquired and are in storage. The Musical Instrument Museum is expected to open in early 2010.
